The 2010–2011 Litigation Counsel of America President is Sharla J. Frost of Houston, Texas. Ms. Frost is a founding partner and member of the litigation section of Powers & Frost, LLP, where she serves as the firm’s Managing Partner.
Ms. Frost focuses her practice on civil litigation for Fortune 50 and 100 companies throughout the United States. In 2009, she served as lead trial counsel for the parent company in a contested bankruptcy confirmation trial in the Southern District of New York. She has served as local, regional and national counsel for a variety of clients and is a member of the national trial team for several others. She has extensive experience working with team approaches to complex litigation, ranging from joint trials to strategic partnering on technical and expert defense issues in complex cases. Ms. Frost is licensed in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, West Virginia and Mississippi. She has appeared as first chair trial counsel throughout Texas, as well as in California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Oklahoma and Washington.
Ms. Frost is a frequent speaker on litigation related topics, including the development and presentation of expert witnesses; the presentation of persuasive opening statements in products liability cases; and, jury selection in problem jurisdictions. She was an invited participant in the DRI Preeminent Trial Lawyer Seminar in September 2005 and 2007, at which the top rated speakers from the previous three years of DRI presentations were invited to participate in an intensive trial training seminar for experienced litigators.
In addition to being a Fellow of the LCA, Ms. Frost is AV Peer Review rated, Martindale Hubbell’s highest peer review recognition for ethical standards and legal ability. She has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer by the Texas Monthly magazine for each year since 2005. Ms. Frost is a member of the state bar association in each of the five states in which she is licensed. She is a member of the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the National Association of Women Lawyers, the Inns of Court, the American Bar Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates. She serves as a member of the Supreme Court Nominee Evaluation Committee of the National Association of Women Lawyers and is an appointed member of the DRI Women In the Courtroom Committee. Ms. Frost also serves as Vice-Chair of the Liaison Committee between DRI and DRI Europe.
Ms. Frost received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech Communication from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1984 and her J.D. from Baylor Law School in 1987. |
